Medal Winners at the Athens 2004 Olympics

Athens 2004 marked the first time in Olympic Games history that all Aquatics events took place in a single venue; the Olympic Aquatic Centre of the Athens Olympic Sports Complex.

The Olympic Archery competition was held at the Panathinaiko Stadium. Also known as Kallimarmaro, this is where the first modern Games were held and where Greek runner Spyridon Louis became the first marathon winner.

With her gold medal in the kayak fours (K-4 500m) and silver in the kayak double (K-2 500m) in Athens, Birgit Fischer (formerly of East Germany) took her total tally to twelve medals (8 gold and 4 silver) in 24 years of Olympic competition.

Mia Hamm has been an inspiration to American women's football, winning gold in Atlanta 1996, silver in Sydney 2000 and gold again in Athens.

Designed by Jan Linge in 1967, the smaller-sized Yngling replaced the Soling.

Adriana Behar and Shelda Bede of Brazil became the first beach volleyball pair to earn medals in two Olympics; albeit it silver both times.
